For the first time, the entire admission process will be conducted virtually across the state. In the past, the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) was limited to just five major regions: the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Pune-Pimpri Chinchwad, Nagpur, Nashik, and Amravati. Now, students from every district in Maharashtra can apply to junior colleges anywhere in the state – no need to physically visit the institutions. Pretty convenient, right?
Seat Availability and Stream-wise Distribution
Now, let’s talk about the numbers. A huge 20.43 lakh seats are available across 9,281 junior colleges in Maharashtra. Here’s how it breaks down:
- Science: 8,52,206 seats
- Commerce: 5,40,312 seats
- Arts: 6,50,682 seats
In the Pune division alone, which is a pretty significant area, there are 3,75,843 seats. This includes 1,03,705 seats for Science, 1,01,971 for Commerce, and 1,70,170 for Arts. Quite a lot of options to choose from!
When registering, students can select up to 10 junior colleges as their preferences. The final seat allotment will be determined by merit and the order of preference selected during the application process.
